Oklahoma has long been analogous with Bingo. This is because the American Indian bands of Oklahoma have run Bingo sessions for many years. Patrons from all of the nearby states pile in passenger cars and travel into Oklahoma to bet on Bingo for the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act was introduced after a benchmark ruling by The U.S. Supreme Court the year before. Since that time, 23 of the thirty nine Native tribes of Oklahoma have introduced gaming halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma Native tribes to take advantage of the betting restrictions, and today control 10 casinos of their own. Bingo was the game on which these gambling dens were founded. Electronic games such as one armed bandits were not authorized, because they are believed to contribute to gambling problems more than bingo.
In the past few years, Oklahoma rules have changed to permit big American Indian betting gambling dens. You’ll now find Amerindian gambling dens with slot machines, video poker and chemin de fer tables. Craps and roulette are not yet legal in the American Indian gambling halls as of yet, although that is only a matter of time. Nobody can authority whether having other gambling hall games in the bingo houses will do for the popularity of bingo.
