Might the Smoking Ban in the UK Force Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Web?

Much has been stated in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry being hit as a result of the anti smoking law in England. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. But does the internet adaptation of this traditional game offer a salvation, or will it never compare to its real life peer?

Bingo is an classic game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game lately had experienced a recent resurgence in popularity with younger men and women opting to hit the bingo halls in place of the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to change with the enforcement of the anti smoking law around United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes while marking numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public location will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite areas where many people like to smoke.

The results of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already not permitted in the bingo parlours. Players have dropped and the industry is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Obviously they have not forgotten this familiar game?

The answer is online. Players know that they can wager on bingo using their computer while enjoying a drink and smoke and still enjoy massive cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened just about perfectly with the anti smoking law.

Of course wagering on on the net could never replace the collective part of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left a good many bingo players with little choice.
